End of the 1st Day - End of the 2nd Series

The end of the 2nd series and the 1st day of the National Retriever Derby Championship is officially in the books at 3:37 PM.  A great start for the championship!

Right - Down center of field - angle left to blind - Drilled it

Left - Down to fall area - quick turn left then right and got it!

Right - Drilled It!

Left - Very short throw - Down the middle of the field straight to the fall area and tight hunt to the bird.

Right - SMACK!

Left - Up left side of the field for hunt behind guns.  Got deep left then worked it out.

41. WHITEWATER'S BLAZING AURORA, "Blaze", LM, Frank Ganley

Right - Got a good line, then got deep and hunted up his bird.

Left - Went up the middle of the field then angled left behind the guns.  Hunted this area hard before turning right and getting into the fall area and getting his bird.

40. SEASIDE'S ISSHEIT, "Izzy", LF, Jason Baker

Right - POW!!

Left - Went up just behind guns, got a little deep then quickly turned right and got his bird.

Tomorrow, Monday, October 16, the test dog will run at 7:45 AM with the 1st running dog at 8:00 AM.

Right - Straight to the fall area with a tight turn and his bird.

Left - Excellent line and mark.

38. BALLY'S SAVIN' FOR A RAINY DAY JH, "Rainy", LF, Adam Bally

Right - to fall area then several big loops before she found her bird.

Left - Straight to fall area then a tight hunt and got her bird.

37. I'M JUST RAISING KANE, "Kane", LM, Paul Knutson

Left - Ran thru the right mark and cut across the hill and drilled the left bird

Right - Ran down hill right of guns. Had a hunt and got his bird.

36. BIRD CREEK'S DOC HOLIDAY, "Doc", LM, Chuck Cagle

Right - Straight to the fall area and the bird!

Left - Very nice line up the hill and quickly found his bird.

Right - Really good line and mark.

Left - Stepped on IT!

34. SANDHILL FIRST CLASS, "First", LM, Brad Arington

Right - SMACK!

Left - Went up left side of the field, hunted one big loop then turned right to fall area then to the his bird.

33. WATERMARK'S PATENT PENDING, "Carbon ", LM, Larry Vaske

Right - Good line to the fall area, one big loop and got it!

Left - Ran up left side of field when he got to the guns made one big loop and got it!

32. COOLWATER'S FIGHTIN' SIDE, "MERLE", LM, Jason Baker

Right - Perfect line to the fall area, had a short hunt to the bird

Left - Down the middle of the field to top of next hill.  Hard left to the bird. Nice Mark.

31. BIGWOODS LAST MAN STANDING, "Champ", LM, Mark Henry

Right - Very nice job to fall area

Left - Took a line wide left of the line, came back in at the top of the hill and got it.

30. VINSON'S NEZ BOUEUX NOIR ZEKE, "Zeke", LM, James Vinson

Right - Line between gund and bird a few turns and got it!

Left - Great line - missed and got deep, hunted left and right deep of the bird. Worked his way back down the hill to the bird

29. HOLLAND CLIFFS PLAY IT AGAIN, "Luke", LM, Alvin Hatcher

Right - Wide left of the fall area and on up the hill.  Came back down to the bird.

Left - Straight line but ran past the bird.  Turned around and came back to it!

28. RISKY RIVER'S FIFTY SHADES OF BROWN, "Camo", CBRM, Briedi Gillespie

Left - Up past right bird - deep then went to the left hand bird

Right - to area and hunted it up

Rerun - 21. HIGH HOPES FEELIN' GROOVY, "Rita", LF, Will Price

Right - Missed her bird and put on a hunt deep before coming back down to the her bird

Left - Line out took the dog behind guns and up to fence, back down right to the bird.

Right - Great Mark

Left - Perfect line to the guns and then broke left instead of right.  Had a hunt before she got her bird.

26. PRAIRIE WIND'S LEAD OFF HITTER "THE MAN OF STEEL", "Solo", LM, Derek Smith

Right - Went down the hill heading a little right, came out behind the guns -
quick turn to the left and got it.

Left - Beautiful line to fall area turned right and Got It!

25. WOLF RIVER'S DIRTY MAX, "Max", LM, Chris Christopher

Right - Wide left of fall, went deep.  Turned back to the fall area then back deep, came back down and got it.

Left - Took great line almost to guns, then broke left behind the guns but worked it out.

Change in Conditions

It seems to be the birds are now falling into the sun light.  We will see if this has any affects on the future dogs running.

24. OLDSQUAW'S SAINT JUDE, "Jude", LM, Brad Arington

Right - Good line to the fall area and quick hunt.  Got It!

Left - Angled across the field way left of guns, got very wide left and deep of the fall to end of the field.  Ran road left and right, deep of fall area. Large hunt before he got the bird.

"Boy those little dogs run fast!" We have heard that phrase a few times today! We want to get the contestant pictures and description of dog work in as timely a manner as possible. So consequently, we have not had a moment to post some of the candid shots that we have taken around the test sites today. BUT WE WILL! Gun Change - Conditions

We have the gunners change at 1:33 pm.

The temperature has increased to 57 degrees.  The wind is staying about the same coming from the NW at 12 mph.

The gun change has gone smooth and we are about to get back to the dogs.

Right - Straight to the bird

Left - Down the hill on a good angle.  Straight up to the bird.

22. DOUBLE K'S MISS IVY, "Ivy", LF, Kevin Polley

Right - Went deep between guns and bird.  Quick turn to left and back down to the bird.

Left - Really nice line but missed it - had to hunt

No Bird - 21. HIGH HOPES FEELIN' GROOVY, "Rita", LF, Will Price

Rita got a No Bird - will be moved back 6 then rerun.

Right - Good line to the fall area then had to hunt but got it!

Left - Line was towards gunners backs, then changed directions and stayed in front of the guns.  He hunted deep and left then got the bird.

Right - Right to the area then to the bird

Left - Crossed right to left as headed towards the bird.  Came up behind the guns and worked her way back over to the bird.

Left - Stumbled going down the hill - headed left, straight to the left bird

Right - Excellent line to fall area then to the bird.

Right - Very nice mark.

Left - Angle left down the hill. Went wide left and deep of fall area, hunted behind guns then worked it out.

10. RIDGECREST'S NO RHYME OR REASON, "Nora", LF, Betsy Broyd

Right - Nice line, quick loop deep and had her bird

Left - Down the hill heading left, up hill to left and deep of guns.  A few passes deep left of gunners then moved right to her bird.

9. BUCKHEAD'S A DOG NAMED DESIRE, "Stella", LF, Jason Baker

Right - Nice line down the hill and back up to the bird

Left - Cross the field from right to left coming out in the fall area.  Missed her bird and hunted deep left.  Worked her way back to the right and down to the bird

8. MY JACK OF HEARTS, "Jack", LM, James Roberts

Right - Good line down the hill and up into the fall area - came in left, one loop and got it!

Left - Great angle down the hill and left across the field to the fall area and the bird.

7. QUACKADDICT'S HEAVY HITTER, "Blitz", LM, Hunter Street

Right - Down the hill and into the fall area.  A few turns and got his bird

Left - SMACK!

Pick Up - 6. FIREMARK ORANGE CRUSH, "Crush", GM, Jean Grammer

Left - Headed right then a crossed the field and went straight to the fall area and then to his rooster

Right - Down the hill and took the same left line as the first bird.  Extensive hunt on the wrong fall area before crossing the field and getting his bird

Conditions - 2nd Series

 A quick note on new conditions for the 2nd series - Both sets of guns are in the sun, but do not stand out real well.

5. MOSSY PONDS SOMETHING ROYAL, "Royal", LF, Brad Arington

Right - Straight to the bird

Left - Down the hill back up far hill behind the gunners.  Hunted left and deep of gunners before moving right to the correct side and to the bird.

3. ABBEYS BLAZE OF GLORY QA2, "Legend", LM, Will Price

Came to the line at 12:10 PM

Right - Drilled It

Left - Down long hill, went deep left of guns. Hunted hill and then back to correct side of gunners and to the bird.

Test Dogs - 2nd Series

Test Dog #1 - "Chevy" – Lou Vreeland

Right Bird - Dog hunted behind guns then deep before coming back down the hill to her bird

Left Bird - Headed back to the right bird - handled. They re-threw the bird and she was had a good mark

Test Dog #2 - "Jaggar" - David Wolfe

Right Bird - Good line down the hill and straight to the bird.

Left Bird - Great mark - directly to the bird

2nd Series – Land Double

Second Series – Land Double

The mat is facing south on the top of a hill. The bird stations are past the bottom of the hill starting up the far side. The first bird is on the lower right side at 243 yards from the line and is a dead rooster thrown to the left. The second bird is farther up the hill on the left side at 284 yards from the line. This bird is also a dead rooster thrown to the right.

On The Move - Weather

The move to the 2nd series went smooth.  The temperature is at 55 degrees with a NW wind at 13 - 15 mph.  We have a cloud covering the sun so it is still cool.

Dead Bird - Very wide left going out but quickly adjusted right and back to the bird.
